Carving Pumpkins-Trunk or Treat- Ward Party

Halloween!!!! I really love Halloween. This year I wasn't into it as much as I normally am. I just wasn't feeling it. But we still had a bunch of fun. Here are a few of the fun things that we did.

Trunk or Treat at the North Liberty Library- I had heard that there was a trunk-or-treat at the North Liberty Library, but I wasn't exactly sure what it was and how busy it was since we obviously have never been to it before. It ended up being really fun. We got there a little early and went inside the library where they had hired someone to take cute Halloween pictures of the kids. They had a craft they could do too, but Jason didn't want to do the craft. We got our pictures taken then played with some toys. This was a mistake. When the truck or treat started we headed outside to get in line, and the line was wrapping around the building.

Luckily the kids were happy, the weather was good, and the line wasn't too long. When it was or turn, the kids loved it. Sadie thought it was so great to be able to take candy from the bowls. She loves candy...like a lot. Jason thought the decorations were fun. And of course he loved the candy.

It didn't take long, but the kids loved it. I am glad we were able to go.

Another Halloween event was our Ward Halloween Party. There was a chili cook off, and a costume party. I am loving the age that the kids are getting to. Camille and Jason ate food, then went and found their friends and ran around and played. But I wasn't worried about them because they are good kids, and always stayed close. I am still not feeling settled into our ward, but I am working on it and I appreciate events like this where we can get to know people in our ward a little better. I made this cake which was both delicious and cute.

We carved pumpkins this year that we got from the Sass Family Farm. Kevin was there and he was the best pumpkin carver. He helped the kids open up their pumpkins, then they cleaned them out as best as they could and we helped finish cleaning them out. Sometimes I think it is just better to paint pumpkins, but it was actually really fun for the kids to get in to the guts and pull out the seeds. The kids told Kevin what they wanted their pumpkin to look like and he interpreted it and carved them. They turned out perfect! Since Kevin carved those two, I got to carve ours. I carved an Iowa Hawkeye this year since we are now in hawkeye country.

The kids woke up on Halloween they wanted a spooky breakfast, but I had only planned a fun dinner, so I dyed their milk green and called it slime. It worked...kids are so easy to please. I just need to remember to laugh with them and make things fun like this for them. They love it!

Halloween day turned out to be so cold! Camille was supposed to have a parade in her costume through town, but they changed it to where we were able to go to the gym and watch them walk around in their costumes. I was glad they changed it because it was so cold, and Sadie had pretty much skipped her nap to be there. So it worked out for us. Camille was so cute in her little ostrich costume. She is the cutest Kindergartner, I may be biased, but I am pretty sure I am right about it.

That night I made the kids get into their snow suits then I tried squeezing them into their costumes. Surprisingly it worked pretty well. We went and met some friends, and hit a couple of the houses in our neighborhood, but then they headed over to the other neighborhood, and we walked back to the car to go meet them over there, but I had never been to that neighborhood and so we got lost. We just pulled over and walked a street and it ended up being perfect. Sadie was so tired, she kept falling asleep in the stroller, and we just walked up and down one street and it was plenty!

Overall it was a great Halloween. Hopefully next year we can get more decorations out, but it was good for this year.  Happy Halloween from an Ostrich, Chase from Paw Patrol, and the cutest monkey around!

Silly Sadie Update

I feel like I haven't written any updates on how much Sadie has grown in a while, but oh has she grown. She mostly makes me laugh most of the time, and is so sweet (with a little fire in her soul).

She isn't really talking, but the one thing she does say is Mama. Although she doesn't just nicely and sweetly say mama. She will only yell it at the top of her lungs "MAMA!!!!!!" It makes me laugh, but I am looking forward to when she starts talking to me.

Sadie is getting really good at finding her body parts. She especially loves to find her belly button. Sometimes I will ask her where he belly button is when she is in a onesie, and she can't pull her shirt up and it is so funny. She just keeps pulling and pulling on her shirt looking for her belly button. It is precious.

A not so precious thing that Sadie does is sticks her finger up her nose. It is her happy calm spot. She just loves having her finger in her nose. Hopefully someday we can get that to stop, but for now it is going full force.

Right not Sadie is 16 months old, and she is not really talking at all besides the mama. She just grunts and points at things. Amazingly, we communicate pretty well and I know what she wants most of the time.

Sadie currently can hardly be pried off of me. She isn't really snuggling as much as she was, but she just likes to be held...All The Time! It is exhausting, but I secretly like having her tagging along. She makes life better.

I have never had a child love coloring at such a young age. She loves it. She will sit and color little lines for a long time. She likes pens and markers the most. She doesn't really love crayons, which is unfortunate because she will color on walls and floor and her legs. Pretty much anywhere. She is starting to learn to only color on paper, but until then I need to keep a magic eraser close by.

She also has been my first child who just really loves sweets more than anything. She knows what the good stuff looks like, and she wants it. Hopefully I can get her to start liking more fruits and vegetables!

Sadie, I mostly want to write and say that we love you so much! You make our lives better, and I can't wait to see what interests you develop as you grow older! You are amazing, and so sweet! Love you forever sweet girl!

Sass Family Farm

To get into the Halloween Spirit we went to the Sass Family Farm with our friends the Rogers. It is a free little farm about 10 miles away and the kids loved it. There was a bounce house, and pumpkins to choose from. They had toys to play with and animals to see. It was fun to be able to spend some times with some friends at a new place. I am loving getting to see new places and experience new things out here in Iowa.  I wish that I was better at blogging, and didn't get so far behind, but this is as good as it gets for this post. I just want my kids to know that I love them, and enjoy exploring the world with them. Seeing the world through their eyes makes the world a better place to be living. Love you all!

Niabi Zoo

My Friend Lala said that the Zoo was having a free day, and she invited us to go with her. It was about an hour away, and my cautious self was a little worried, but the kids did great (as always) and we had a lot of fun. The weather was beautiful and the zoo wasn't even busy for a free day!

We drove over to the zoo which was actually in Illinois, and got there right about lunch time. We sat in the car and ate our packed lunches, then headed into the zoo.

It was the perfect sized zoo, not too big, and not too small, just right! They had giraffes and lions, a koi pond and monkeys. They had the reptile house, and even a small aquarium exhibit. I was glad that we went out and had a little bit of fun on such a nice day. I love doing things with my sweet kids.

The Play Station

We were invited by Lala to go to a place in Cedar Rapids called the Play Station. It was like an indoor jungle gym, and it was having $1 day so we jumped on the opportunity to try it out and went. I am so glad that we did. I was worried about so many things (I am a worrier by nature, and I don 't see that changing soon, but I have tried to still do things even though I am worried.

I was worried that Jason wouldn't know how to play with friends. Whenever we go do something we always have Camille with us. Camille and Jason play great together, and they invite all who are around them to come play. But this was the first time doing something like this with just Jason. He did great! I don't know what I was worried about. He and Ronan went and ran and played and jumped for a couple of hours. It was the perfect thing for them.

They had imagined the whole play area as their house, they had a kitchen and a bedroom. It was fun to see their imaginations going.

Even Sadie loved playing there. They had an area for little kids, but she almost liked the big area just as much as the little area.

I am so glad we have friends who think of us and are so kind to invite us places.
